At Mansfield Green we work closely with Services for Education Music Service in Birmingham. We recognise and value the impact music has on our curriculum; as well as to the social, emotional and cultural development of our children.

Year 2 pupils have a weekly recorder lesson with a specialist teacher. They learn musical notes, how to play short pieces and to read music.

Year 4 pupils currently have a weekly violin lesson with a trained music specialist teacher. The children perform regularly in a termly concert where we celebrate their progress and success. Children in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to continue these weekly lessons. In addition, our Year 5 and 6 electives also take part in a weekly violin ensemble.

All children throughout the academy receive a 45 minute weekly lesson over 6 weeks with a specialist vocal coach throughout the academic year. This gives children the opportunity to practise their musical skills using both vocals and instruments.

In addition to our music lessons, Key Stage Two children can join the academy choir who meet weekly to perform and practise. As a choir we have been fortunate to represent the academy at Birmingham Youth Proms which take place annual at the Symphony Hall.
