The Design and Technology curriculum at Mansfield Green E-ACT Primary Academy will enable students to use creativity, imagination and problem solving skills to design and make real and relevant products from Nursery through to Year 6. As a truly inclusive school, the knowledge based, vocabulary rich and sequential curriculum plan will enable all students to engage in Design and Technology. It will draw upon a broad range of cross-curricular subjects such as maths, science, IT and art and be mindful of pedagogical practices that enhance how children learn.
The knowledge based curriculum will be taught within two key areas: designing and making, and cooking and nutrition. Within designing and making, children will learn how to design and make high-quality prototypes and be able to critically evaluate and test their own and others’ work. Within cooking and nutrition, the children will understand and apply the principles of nutrition to learn where food comes from, and how to cook using a range of techniques. Alongside the national curriculum, in order to further support our students, we will use resources and expertise from the Design and Technology Association.
At Mansfield Green E-ACT Primary Academy, we are aware that through an enriched Design and Technology curriculum, we are making an essential contribution to the creativity, culture and well-being of our pupils, and the community.
Our aim is to ensure that our DT specialists are successful individuals in their chosen field/career.
